Altagracia Typical Day
A Typical Day at Colegio Nuestra Señora De La Altagracia.
7:00 AM Arrival!
Students begin arriving at 7 AM bright-eyed and ready to learn! Students gather in the Basketball court for morning prayer at 7:20AM.
7:30 AM – 9:10 AM
Students attend their first block of the day, with a core course (Social Studies, Language Arts, Reading, Math, Science, Spanish). (View List of Courses Offered). Each course is tailored to fulfill their graduation requirements according to the requirements of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Our block schedule allows for ample time to complete assignments, engage in collaborative learning activities, and demonstrate mastery through formative assessments.
9:10 AM – 9:20 AM Morning Break
Students and staff take a mid morning break for a quick snack an a breath of fresh air. It has been established that a morning break greatly improves the ability to concentrate, thus providing a healthier environment for memory, discipline and the learning process.
9:20 AM – 11:50 AM
Students are immersed in their second instructional block of the day, taking core courses according to their graduation requirements. We offer a diverse curriculum featuring language, social sciences, history, and more (View List of Courses Offered). Students will work as teams and alongside our faculty on fun projects, hands-on assignments, and in-depth research topics.
11:00 – 12:50 PM Lunch Time!
This is not only a chance for students re-fuel, but for students to get a break from their studies and socialize with classmates. All students are provided with a variety of lunch options.
12:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Students attend their third and last block of the day, with Physical Education, Religion or an elective (Music, Art, Career & Personal Development Computer Lab, Leadership). As in every block, students’ schedules of coursework are customized to fulfill their graduation checklist according to the requirements of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. As with each of our class blocks, our course schedule provides plenty of time to learn individually and collaboratively on projects and other assignments, give presentations, complete portfolio work, and demonstrate mastery.
Dismissal 2:30 PM
School’s out! Off to get started on homework, attend optional tutoring sessions, participate after-school programs, or make one’s way to a part-time job.
7th and 10th Grade Students
As per our commitment to the education in Puerto Rico. Students of 7th and 10th grade are required to have an extra period every day from 2:30PM to 3:20PM. This enables them to receive two required courses. Geography of Puerto Rico and History of Puerto Rico. Our Puerto Rican Heritage, Culture and History are of the most important to us. These courses are taught completely in spanish language. Let’s never forget who we are.
